Winter guard

This indoor color guard sport was originally rooted in military ceremonies and performance art. Modern winter guard is a performance-based competitive activity that involves choreographed movement and dance while teammates manipulate flags, sabres and rifles.

A winter guard performance typically uses recorded soundtracks and runs between three and seven minutes. Teams often perform at competitions where judges evaluate and score them on unity, quality, range, design, precision, skill and effect. These judges are credentialed by Winter Guard International (WGI), whose annual World Championships event attracts around 60,000 guests.
